I think I visit this drawing at least once a week (yes, I stalk some of your illustrations). It's by far one of my favorites, which is saying a lot considering you have so many great illustrations AND, in all honesty, I'm not a huge Tarkus fan like so many others. I think my love for this drawing has a lot less to do with the subjectivity of it and more to do with simple aesthetics. It has a brilliant use of what is usually referred to as a "triangle composition;" the perspective of the Iron Golem in combination with the posture of Tarkus creates a nice pyramid shape and the Iron Golem's right arm even angles-in nicely to reinforce the triangle composition as a whole. Beyond the composition, I can't help but love looking at it abstractly; the curvature and flow of those shapes that make-up the Iron Golem's shadows on Its armor is fun to look at alone.
Overall, it's just such a brilliant piece, I love it.
I was just playing Dark Souls last night with a friend. I run in with Tarkus and start attacking, realize my friend is just sitting back watching, and after a few moments of hitting the Golem for 23 damage with my bandit knife, I just stepped back and watched Tarkus pwn his ass. XD Best NPC EVER!
God. Y'know what they should do for Dark Souls II? If they keep the "time is confused in Lordran" thing, they should introduce a part where you get to meet Tarkus in the past. That would be friggin' AWESOME, especially since the backstory they gave him is so badass.
Me the first time fighting the Iron Golem Me: Alright Tark, let's go- *Tarkus two hands his sword, charges in, clobbers the Golem, knocks it's bitch ass off the roof like it's nothing and then promptly disappears* IRON TARKUS NEEDS NO ASSISTANCE.
Tarkus: Now i´m going to crack your NUTS! Irongolem: Oh NOOOO! *Tshing!* IG: AAAABUAAABAA!!!! Tarkus: BOOYA, Right in the !!! IG:AHHH! MY GIANT STEEL DIICKK!! IG: You I do not forget!! *after 30 Seconds* IG: I´m dead. Not big Surprise... [link]
